Have Your Say about Online Access to General Practice
Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire & Berkshire West Integrated Care Board (BOB ICB) has heard from residents that they would like online access to general practice to be easier to use and more consistent.
What do we mean by online access to general practice?
Online access systems are platforms which enable patients to get help and advice from their GP practice without needing to visit in person. They all have different offers and practices can choose which functions are available to their patients. They can include the following functions:
Self-Help Information: You can access NHS self-help resources and advice for managing your symptoms or condition.
Online Advice: You can fill out an online symptoms checker and receive advice on the best course of action, which might save you a trip to the surgery.
Convenience: Online systems can be available for you to use from any device, whether you’re at home, work, or on the go.
Local Services: Online systems can direct you to local services, such as pharmacies, that might be more appropriate for your needs.
Administrative Help: You can also use general practice online systems for non-medical issues, like requesting sick notes or test results.
The BOB Primary Care Strategy(External link) sets out that patients can request care through a number of routes, including via online consultation.
BOB ICB is currently selecting an online consultation system to provide to GP practices across our area. We want to take patients’ views into account when making that decision. Please help us by spending a few minutes in completing this survey.
